Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into the family of actors as well as filmmakers. Both professions she's been pursuing. In 1985, she made her debut in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni. In 1988, she played her role as the main character in Cristina Comencini's debut film, Zoo (1988), and was one of the actors in The Church (1989), directed by Michele Soavi. She played Nanni Moretti's daughter later in the year in Red Wood Pigeon (also directed Moretti) (1989). Close Friends (written and directed by Michele Placido) was when Asia's acting career started to blossom. She played roles that ranged from very young to becoming more mature. Cannes International Film Festival was a great movie's success. For Trauma (1993), she made her debut with her father, famed Italian horror director Dario Argento (her mother is one of his favorite actors, Daria Nicolodi, playing an obese girl on the lookout of her parents' murderer. The Phantom of the Opera was her third film alongside her dad and the two other films were Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Her deep, absorbing acting style has been well used in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze. In addition, she had a prominent part in the international cast of Queen Margot directed by Patrice Chereau. In 1995, she starred with Michel Piccoli as Traveling Companion by Peter Del Monte. This performance earned her a David di Donatello (for the best actor) as well as a Grolla of Oro. Asia began directing in 1994 she produced two short films: Prospettive (1996), an account of her father's life as well as Abel/Asia (1998) which was a documentary on the legendary film maker Abel Ferrara. The latter won an award from the Rome Film Festival. In 1999 Asia was the first to direct a feature film by directing Scarlet Diva (2000), where she played the leading actress and author of the screenplay. It was released on May 20, 2000 in Italy, and throughout the rest the world. In Brooklyn, New York it won a award at the Williamsburg film festival. Anna Lou was born in 2001, after having directed a few music videos. The actress starred alongside Jean-Marc Barre on The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she was in Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action-packed thriller. Asia is the author of numerous short stories which were published in various magazines.
